🕊️ Rest in Peace, dear Humberto. The Santino Pizarro Carrizo Foundation bids farewell to a brave warrior.

With deep sorrow, the Santino Pizarro Carrizo Foundation mourns the passing of Humberto Enrique Vargas Constanzo (2010 – 2026), a young boy who faced DIPG with a strength and courage that leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A warrior who taught us to be brave

Humberto Vargas was just 15 years old, with a smile that said everything. A strength in the face of illness that goes far beyond what anyone should ever have to show at his age.

Humberto faced DIPG with a courage that left its mark on everyone who walked alongside him on this journey. His passing fills us with profound sadness, but his example of fight and hope will remain with us always.

From the Santino Pizarro Carrizo Foundation, we embrace his family, friends and loved ones with all our heart in this moment of immense grief. We know that words are never enough, but we want them to know they are not alone.

For Humberto, for Santino, for Laurita, and for those still fighting

Every time the Fundación Santino Pizarro Carrizo says goodbye to a child who faced DIPG, the pain is renewed throughout our entire team, but so is the conviction that this fight cannot stop.

Humberto joins today the memory of Santino, Laurita and so many other children who fought with everything they had against one of the most cruel pediatric brain tumors that exists. Their legacy is the driving force that pushes all of us to keep searching for answers, to keep demanding access to treatments, to keep standing beside the families who are facing this same battle today.

What is DIPG and why we need you in this fight

DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) is a brain tumor that primarily affects children and young people. In Chile there is no available treatment, no established protocols and no access to clinical trials. The only experimental therapeutic alternatives are found in Spain and the United States, meaning that every family that receives this diagnosis must face a race against time largely alone, often without resources, without guidance, and without a support network to sustain them.

The Santino Pizarro Carrizo Foundation works every day so that no family has to face DIPG alone, and so that the children fighting today can access the best options available in the world.

How you can help the children fighting today

The best way to honor the memory of Humberto, Santi, Laurita and all the children who have been lost in this fight, is to act for those who are still in the battle:

Rest in peace.
